IP Law Firm in Lahore: Trademark, Patent and Copyright Lawyers

Trade mark, patent and copyright filings are made with the Intellectual Property Organization of Pakistan (IPO-Pakistan). It is worth being clear about the geography, because it is frequently misdescribed:

• The Trade Marks Registry is located in Karachi, at IP-House, Plot CD-3 behind the KDA Civic Centre, Gulshan-e-Iqbal. IPO-Pakistan also lists its Patent Office and Copyright Office in Karachi.
• IPO-Pakistan's head office is in Islamabad, and it maintains regional offices including Lahore, Peshawar and Quetta. The Lahore regional office is at the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry building, 11 Shahrah-e-Aiwan-e-Sanat-o-Tijarat, near China Chowk.
• IPO-Pakistan states that a trade mark application can be filed at its offices in Islamabad, Karachi or Lahore.

So a Lahore applicant can lodge trade mark papers in Lahore, but the examination, the Journal advertisement, any opposition and the registration itself are handled centrally. The procedure, the official fees and the statutory deadlines are the same wherever the application is lodged.

What being in Lahore does change is practical: documents, stamped and notarised powers of attorney on Form TM-48, originals and pay orders can be prepared and lodged without relying on a courier.

Infringement is not a general civil court matter in Pakistan. Section 18 of the Intellectual Property Organization of Pakistan Act 2012 provides that all suits and other civil proceedings regarding infringement of the intellectual property laws shall be instituted and tried in the Intellectual Property Tribunal, and that the Tribunal has exclusive jurisdiction over offences under those laws. Section 17 gives a Tribunal, in its civil jurisdiction, all the powers of a civil court under the Code of Civil Procedure 1908, and in its criminal jurisdiction the powers of a Court of Sessions under the Code of Criminal Procedure 1898.

IPO-Pakistan's list of Intellectual Property Tribunals (checked 2 October 2026) shows the first three, at Lahore, Karachi and Islamabad, notified on 2 December 2014, with further Tribunals since notified at Quetta and Rawalpindi (2023) and a second Lahore Tribunal and a Multan Tribunal (2025). For Punjab, IPO-Pakistan lists the territorial jurisdiction of Lahore Tribunal I as the Lahore, Faisalabad and Gujrat Divisions, of Lahore Tribunal II as the Gujranwala and Sargodha Divisions, of the Multan Tribunal as the Multan, Sahiwal, Bahawalpur and D.G. Khan Divisions, and of the Rawalpindi Tribunal as the Rawalpindi Division.

Under section 19, an appeal from a final judgment or order of a Tribunal lies to the High Court having territorial jurisdiction over that Tribunal — for a Tribunal sitting in Lahore, the Lahore High Court — and must be brought within thirty days. Section 16(11) also allows a Tribunal, where it requires, to be assisted on technical aspects by an expert.

• Trade marks — clearance searches, filing on Form TM-1 or TM-2, responses to examination objections, opposition proceedings and hearings, renewals, assignments and recordals.
• Patents — preparation and filing of applications on provisional and complete specifications, correspondence with the Patent Office, prosecution and renewals.
• Copyright — registration support on Form-II, ownership and assignment documentation, licensing, and the newspaper advertisement that section 39(2) of the Copyright Ordinance 1962 requires for artistic works.
• Industrial designs — filing, prosecution and renewal under the Registered Designs Ordinance 2000 and the Registered Designs Rules 2023.
• Enforcement — IP enforcement, legal notices, settlement support and litigation coordination.
• Corporate and commercial — licensing, assignment, franchising and IP-related contracts, alongside the firm's wider corporate practice.
